EVALUATION: Question 7

Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to the full product?

For my preliminary task I showed an argument between 2 characters, this consisted of match-on-action shots and shot reverse shots. The difference between my final piece and preliminary is substantial; this is because my when filming my first piece I had almost no understanding and experience with the camera, iMovie and after effects. There are 3 main areas in which I have grown knowledge and understanding throughout the process of filming of both pieces these are:

· Editing the development of my editing skills has probably been the largest of all; this is because at the start of my preliminary I had no experience at all, therefore very little skill. Overtime whilst researching and gaining experience with iMovie and other programs I have developed my skills for simply just being able place footage in the right order to adapting colours, adding soundtracks and editing them, using more advanced transitions, adding diagetic sound effects, stabilizing footage and much more. Other things I have learnt is a stronger understanding of what will and won’t with editing e.g what angle to film at to create better match on action.

· Filming & Preparation due to not being in the situation of organising to create a movie before I wasn’t sure how to plan effectively, for the filming of my preliminary I simply filming during a lunchtime in school; this didn’t take much preparation because the content of the film was very simple. From the progression towards my full product I have learnt how to cope with the organisation and filming of a more complicated film this has been shown because the filming of my final product needed extensive preparation due to the location being in a field and taking more than one session to film therefore by completing this I have shown that I have developed my skills because the amount of workload I can deal with has grown. Other reasons why my filming skills have developed are because my skills in the use of camera movement has multiplied/developed; proof of this is shown by comparing my preliminary and final films, this shows the lack which were used in my first film and the excessive amount used in my final piece.

· Writing/ Storyline by comparing the 2 storylines you can easily see the final piece has a much more complicated and imaginative storyline, therefore is shows that I have developed my skills in deciding and writing/thinking up a good plot for films.

EVALUATION: Question 6

What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product?

During the making of my film and production splash I have used many technologies; and in ever circumstance I have at least learnt something. Below I will describe the technology I have used and what I have learnt from it for each technology:

· Blogger.com this is a blogging website which I have used to post and broadcast my coursework, prior to this media AS level I have never used blogger before; therefore I have learnt everything I know through this process, this includes how to post, edit posts, embed clips and slide shows etc…

· Slideshare.net this website enables it’s users to broadcast with power-point/slide shows; therefore making them liable to be embedded, which is exactly what I used the site for. I have never used this site before, therefore I have now learnt how to upload, embed and broadcast my slideshows. This may be useful in the future because slide shows are used in presentations and business talks etc... Which means this site could end up being very useful in many career paths.

· Surveymonkey.com this website enables users to create surveys which can be filled out by and internet user, this is useful because it means that the creator will get a better understanding of the general population’s views due to the survey being available to everyone. From this site I have learnt how to create an effective and useful survey which enables me to get the information I want, I have also learnt how to put this survey online; therefore making it available to a much wider audience.

· Freeplaymusic.com this website consists of a database of music which is all copyright free, and is available for download. I used this site because we needed copyright free soundtracks to complete my film, therefore it was perfectly suitable and by using this site I learnt how to easily get free copyright music.

· YouTube.com is a video broadcasting site which is used worldwide, I used this site to post my videos in order to embed them in my blog, throughout this process I have learnt how to embed clips and broadcast them.

· Facebook.com is a social networking site which is the key to creating viral buzzes due to extremely fast progression around the planet and population. I used the site to advertise my surveys on surveymonkey.com to get larger numbers and quicker feedback. By doing this I learnt how to create events and the effects of posting information to a large audience.

· Tripod is a structure which enables the person filming to maintain a strong steady camera shot, this also helps produce more stable camera movement such as panning. Through this process I have learnt how to use a tripod from the basics (seeing as I have never used one before) other things I have learnt about the specific tripod I used are: How to pan smoothly, how to change the angle of the shot whilst still having the camera on the tripod.

· IMovie is an apple produced program which enables the user to create movies, this has additional features including possible transitions, video effects, und effects etc… Before making my film I had never used an Apple operating system before therefore I have learnt a lot about program iMovie seeing as I started from scratch. Skills which I have learnt include, how to add sound effects from iLife and iMovie, how to stabilize footage, how add transitions and adding colour effects to existing footage.

· Adobe Photoshop Is professional program for editing and creating images. I used this program to create original images from my film title and production splash, in doing this is increased my novice skills in using the program, this included adding effects to simple images such as: rendering a lens flare and adding lighting effects.

· Adobe After Effects Is a professional program for editing and creating new video footage, I used this program to create my production splash and film title, this provided the movement for the pictures used. Before the start of this process I had never used the program before, therefore I have learnt how to add effects to movies, create movement, change colours and create a movies in a range of formats including QuickTime events.

· SLR Camera is a professional standard photography camera, I used this to film and photograph the footage and processes of my film, in doing this I learnt how to change the filming style to 1080p (therefore getting the highest quality footage) and how to attach it to a tripod.

· Windows Movie Maker whilst blogging etc I used the program to create videos showing my progress and previous evaluation questions, before this process I had used the program many times before, I have just simply improved the skills I have already learnt.

EVALUATION: Question 3

What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?

My film is a psychological Thriller, many institutions produce a selection of genres and styles of film; an institution which I feel has produced many films of a similar mood and therefore may be suited to its production and distribution would be Universal Pictures, this would be because in the past they have worked with 2 of the most respected and popular Thriller genre director/producers since the film industry took off: Alfred Hitchcock and Tim Burton. Hitchcock himself is known as ‘the master of suspense’ and full of suspense is exactly the type of film ‘Psychopath’ is; other aspect included in Universal’s films are those contributed by Tim Burton; many of his films have a dark & dreary feel which sets the mood for a perfect Thriller, therefore I think Universal know exactly how to produce a high quality thriller film due to their past releases.

Because Universal have expectations due to past success this means there will most likely be a frequently audience which watch many of their films; because of the institution’s past set of films containing many thrillers this means that if my film was to be sold my Universal then a large target market will already be interested in it; therefore being better for its revenue intake and popularity.

Other reasons why I think an institution such as Universal Studios/Pictures would be appropriate for my film is that it’s worldwide, with headquarters in California and other large bases in Japan, Singapore and Florida there Institution has the ability to broadcast to a large audience, therefore also increasing the popularity and revenue intake of the film both at the cinema and on DVD/Blur-ray; this would be good because it means the film is likely to make more profit therefore if I was to make another one I may have access to high technologies which may cost more. This will be useful because they may help my films in the future to because more immersive and enticing.

EVALUATION: Question 2

This Movie shows the answer to my second evaluation question, the film is shown below:

EVALUATION: Question 1

For my first evaluation question I have used a power-point to project my ideas more clearly this power-point is shown below:

Target Audience Feedback: Interview

Despite the thin screen, I believe this interview shows more Qualitative feedback (expressing opinions) therefore shows me more in depth things I can work on, the interviewee is my younger sister.

Target Audience Feedback

This slideshow explains and describe the activities which I have conducted to receive Target Audience Feedback, the interview I describe will be on the next post.

Target Audience Feedback Prep

I have created a survey on www.surveymonkey.com; I have done this because it one of the most popular and well know sites for survey fillers; therefore it will help me gain more respondants to get a more accurate idea of the general population's views. Below is the link to my survey:

PLANNING: Last Minute

Towards the end of my editing I realised that my film is only just over a minute long, because of the extra time before I fill the 2 minutes I have decided to add some more footage; therefore I will need to do more filming. I have scheduled the filming to be on Thursday 15th March therefore I will still have about a week to edit and introduce the footage into my film. To help plan this new footage I have completed storyboards; these are shown below:

EDITING: Soundtrack

Today I continued to edit my movie; but for the first time I am now including soundtracks. The soundtrack I have chosen for the chase is called 'Running Away' which I have downloaded from www.freeplaymusic.com (therefore it is a piece of non-copyright music). I have chosen this songs because it builds tension at the correct rate for the chase and therefore fits the footage perfectly. Below are photos of me working on the editing process:

EDITING: Film Title

I have decided to promote the title of my film with a moving image with sound effects; the same as my production splash I have create this using adobe after effects & photoshop, I have chosen to do this because I have used a certain noise which I believe will capture the viewers attention and keep them on the edge of their seats throughout the film. below is the simply but useful animation I have created:

EDITING: Production Splash

Below is a power-point showing 2 production splashes which I have de-constructed using research:

I have taken into account that many production splashes are specific almost simple images; therefore I have based by own production logo on a diverse image: an eclipse.
Therefore I am calling my production company 'Eclipse Productions'
Below is my own production splash which I have created on Adobe After Effects cs5.5:

SHOOTING

Today we completed the last part of filming, the shooting was a great success and whilst waiting for my space on the mac to edit the movie I have been creating my own production splash and title to the film, the images for these were both created on Adobe photoshop cs5.5 and then converted to clips with Adobe After Effects cs5.5, I have used these 2 programs because I have previous experience using Adobe Products due to be doing ICT A Level therefore I know they can be used to generate the effects I want. Below are stills of footage filmed:

PLANNING: Change of Plan

After completing my e-book and talking to my ICT teacher Mr McMorrow I was informed I would have to buy webspace to broadcast my e-book onto the internet; therefore I have ruled this option out and am now returning to my original idea of simply create another slideshare presentation, this is because I need to keep on top of my schedule and restarting with a more advanced idea will waste time. Below are some pictures of me working on the presentation:

PLANNING: Script

Below is my script which I will be using for my film:

1. Establishing shot: Katherine panicking over Charlotte’s dead body; (inferring she is upset) therefore directing the blame form her.

2. Fade to white transition- 1 hour later.

3. Charlotte appears walking through the woods; many shots shown: create match on action.

Shot Angles:

· High up(looking down; from white tree).

· Side on; semi hidden by tree trunk ( as if hiding and someone is watching)

· Head on; (close up[showing expression]… subtitles etc; her expression shows her smiling at the tranquillity of the woods)

4. Charlotte continues to walk; but a phone call disturbs the happy soundtrack.

5. K – (Quick response & sharp/ upset tone) Don’t Move

C – (concerned but not afraid yet) Who is this?

Looks around snapping twig causes her to turn quickly; but nothing is there.

K – (Screeching with emotion) You Bitch! You ruined everything! (Weeps) You stole him from me! He’s not yours to mess around!

C – (Still standing still & Quickly interrupts) OK, I’m sorry; I’m not messing him around, have him back!

K – No! (Small pause) [Screeching again] It’s too late for that you little slut, I’m gona make you pay; he’s mine and you should know that!

C – (Now scared) You’re a fucking Psycho! – tries to move –

K – (Smug voice) Not so fast.

C – (Terrified) WHAT?

K – Point of view shot (running) showing Charlotte in middle of the shot; shows Charlotte turning but as her gaze moves shot switches.

C – Panning shows Katherine chasing after her; then turns back again; and falls to floor (Katherine caught her) and fading out to black transition.

6. Katherine breathing heavily, change of thought; ‘oh shit’ – ‘What have I done’
